about

Written by Alan Bajandas (Knoxville, Tennessee/Madrid, Spain) and originally performed by Shriek Operator. I met Alan in Knoxville while on tour. It was another of those moments where after just a short time talking to someone I knew our friendship would be long and true. When I first heard his music later on I was absolutely blown away. His record 'The God Who Answers By Fire' is a masterpiece. Completely gut wrenching in the most beautiful way. This song is the first of his that I heard and there was no doubt in my mind that I someday wanted to sing it. The emotion that he digs up seemingly from the pits of a burning stomach are precisely what I am drawn to in lyrical composition. And on his record he is beautifully paired with his sister Joanna's voice. While I couldn't replicate that dynamic here, I tried to do it justice.

lyrics

All the rest of my days
I will waltz
All the smoldering, smoldering waste
Of this horrible, horrible love
With two hearts in my chest
I will pray for the never return
Of the hell that I escaped
When you left me here to burn

Oh I thank you
For destroying me
Oh I thank you
Thank you
For destroying everything

And I will sing to the cruel
Surfeit of the world
Oh destroy my heart
Now destroy it again
With your horrible, horrible joy
And I will plead the doomed sky
And all the doomed race of men
Oh pour and pour all of your horror
And all your poison in
And then I will lay down all
Of my perfect flesh
On the table of that cannibal called love
Who eats himself
And will not be fed

Oh I thank myself
For destroying you
Oh I thank myself
For destroying something true

And I will…
Sing Amen
And I will sing it again
And again and again
Amen
