about

Written and originally performed by The Emotron (McDonough, Georgia). Kyle is another human being that I met at the Milestone in 2005. I found his approach to performance both inspiring and freeing. I was experimenting with what performance could be in a band I was in at the time, and seeing someone else being so unafraid really could hot have happened for me. We have been friends ever since. We've performed collaboratively together and alongside each other with our individual acts, toured together, worked together, lived together. He is one of closest friends and has impacted my life in an immense way. I remember seeing him before this song in Georgia just after he'd written it and I was very moved by the honesty. It was perhaps the first time I'd heard him tackle such dark emotions in a song and I approached him about doing a split together that would include it immediately following his set. While that never happened, I am happy to see it sort of come full circle in this way, by including it on this record.

lyrics

Would you call me needy
If I asked you not to be so needy
I can tell you sweetly
That you really don’t need me
I’ve been hanging out
All by myself
I need some solitude
To get my demons out
This town is a trap
It makes me feel like shit
I try to open up my eyes
But I can’t wake up from this nap
Maybe I should just let it go
Destroy my ego
I go out and walk the tracks
To get some feeling back

I’ve been depressed
Feeling complete worthlessness
I need a new mental plan
To be born again
I’ll find a better way…

To kill the pain
